ZERO WASTE LIFESTYLE
“Zero Waste is a philosophy that encourages the redesign of resource
life cycles so that all products are reused.”
Goal = no trash to be sent to landfills or incinerators
Dear fellow students,
Welcome to this second edition of how to reduce your waste in your daily life series.
This month we made a bathroom special, with 5 tips and tricks of how to save
yourself plastic waste and avoid dangerous toxics entering your body.
First 3 facts to supplement your motive list:
Plastic razors and plastic toothbrushes are unrecyclable
Drugstore shampoos and conditioners contains parabens and silicones, which damage
and dry out your hair
The use of make up remover wipes can cause allergies and instead of removing the
make-up from your skin it actually presses the make-up in your skin
#2 'Bathroom Special'
1. Bamboo Toothbrush
It's compostable and sustainable!
2. Shampoo and Soap Bar
Avoid all the plastic packages of your shower gel
and shampoo. Go old-school and buy yourself
shampoo and soap bars. You can use the shampoo bar
up to 80 times, that is 3 times more than an average bottle of shampoo!
3. Cotton Rounds
You can either make it yourself, using an old cotton towel or you can buy it at website we linked in the title.
Tip 1: While washing it in the machine, make sure to use a laundry
bag so it won’t get lost.
Tip 2: Use coconut oil instead of make-up remover. It's organic and
better for your skin, no toxics inside!
4. Metal Safety Razor
Buying those plastic Kruidvat razors is wasteful. Go for this metal razor that you can reuse over and over again.
Tip 3: these razors are sharp, so be careful while shaving.
Tip 4: you can use water and soap as a replacement for the shaving gel.
5. Home Made Toothpaste
Toothpaste tubes are non recyclable, so hereby a recipe on how to make your own toothpaste. Click on the title to see the tutorial on Youtube.
